London Store Turns Black-and-white

Visitors to a london department store should not be surprised to see dalmations in the window, or a piano hanging from the ceiling. it will all be part of selfridges’ black and white theme (july 29 – sept. 10) which has transformed the oxford street store in dramatic monochrome to promote its autumn and winter fashions.
the store is working with venezuelan artist jaime gili in collaboration with london’s new riflemaker art gallery. gili has worked on seven of the oxford street windows on an installation called “seven x seven”: seven images are replicated 7,000 times. key back and white pieces from the autumn and winter collections are showcased in the windows and around the store, including short duffle-coats, skinny suits for men by miu miu and ysl, as well as pencil skirts, skinny pants and cropped jackets for women by alexander mcqueen, d&g jeans and paul smith.
surprising and sometimes surreal elements, from dalmations to oreo cookies, crop up as part of the black and white theme. chanel opens a new boutique in the accessories hall during august. website: www.selfridges.co.uk
