Rocco forte’s brown’s hotel in london’s mayfair is set to re-open in late october following a renovation programme under the direction of olga polizzi. established in 1837, brown’s hotel (albemarle street, w1s 4bp) is rich with history and was where alexander graham bell made the first telephone call in 1876. other famous guests included rudyard kipling, queen victoria and theodore roosevelt. the hotel will retain many of its historic architectural features such as stained glass windows, oak panelling and gilt mirrors but will offer a more contemporary feel and state of the art technology.
in the 117 guestrooms, soft colour schemes reflect refined english charm with a modern flair, using natural linens and silks and angora throws on the beds. artwork by young english artists will sit alongside antiques from the 1930s, 40s & 50s. the donovan bar, brown’s english tea room and the grill restaurant will offer a variety of refreshments and meals in elegant surroundings, while three spa treatment rooms provide a wide range of pampering. rooms from £275, reservations tel: 020 7493 6020.
